The Yamazaki 25yo Mizunara Cask is a rare and highly sought-after single malt Japanese whisky known for its exclusive maturation in Mizunara cask, a type of oak native to Japan.
Unlike previous Yamazaki 25yoreleases, which included whisky from other casks, this expression is entirely aged for at least 25 years in Mizunara, a demanding wood that takes decades to develop its signature properties.
Mizunara casks account for less than 1% of Suntory's total inventory, and they are difficult to use. It takes at least a decade for whisky to begin showing the wood's distinctive aromatic qualities.
